1974 Pontiac TA SD 455

73' saw the introduction of a new Super Duty 455 V8 "SD-455". The Super Duty name was given to Pontiac's high performance engines in the early 1960's.




1974 Pontiac Super Duty 455 V8 "SD-455, original un-restored.
58,200 miles, Rare A/C car, Good condition original Buccaneer Red paint with decals in good to great shape considering their age, Turbo 400 automatic trans.
Original 8 track and even a few tapes, aftermarket Super Tuner AM FM cassette, 
Light tan cloth interior, Power windows, Honeycomb wheels with 245 60R-15 TA radials. Comes from a Pontiac collection in Southern California.


All SD-455's were hand assembled, and had a reinforced block,
special cam shaft, aluminum pistons, oversize valves and
header-like exhaust manifolds.
These SD-455 engines where rated at 290 hp and rumored to be more like 370 hp.



This was the biggest performance of its day.
The new Super Duty 455 was a street legal race prepped engine.
New styling changes for 1974 included a new shovel-nose front end,
horizontal slotted taillight treatments, and a lowered rear fender line.
This would also be the last year of the Super Duty engines!

The SD engine was hand-built using a special reinforced block,
high-output hydraulic cam shaft, forged rods and aluminum pistons,
large diameter valves  and high-flow exhaust manifolds. Rated 390 lb-ft.
 


The SD-455 was an excellent engine capable of making plenty of power, and that it was obviously designed with total performance in mind.







This SD 455/310 HP V-8 is matched to a Turbo 400 automatic and 10-bolt differential.
 This 100 percent matching numbers Super Duty Trans Am includes desirable factory air conditioning,  8-track stereo, power steering, brakes and windows, tilt, dual Sport mirrors and Honeycomb wheels with BF Goodrich T/A radials.
